November Election Results Analysis

Shawn S. Steel is the Republican National Committeeman from California. He is a past Chairman of the California Republican Party and the Founding Director of the California chapter of the influential pro-taxpayer group, the Club for Growth.

Mr. Steel was also an early supporter and key driving force in the 2009 historic election of Michael Steele to the position of Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

A long time fixture in the California Republican Party, Mr. Steel was elected National Committeeman in February 2008.

Mr. Steel defeated incumbent Tim Morgan in what was viewed as a major triumph for Steel's message of reshaping the Republican National Committee into a more effective and open party organization.

In 2001, Mr. Steel was elected as Chairman of the California Republican Party, where during his four year tenure, he organized and pushed the historic recall campaign against then incumbent Democrat Governor Gray Davis.

Mr. Steel also served as California Republican Party Vice Chairman from 1999 to 2001 and Treasurer from 1995 to 1999.

An attorney from Palos Verdes, Mr. Steel has written articles published in every major newspaper in his state.

Deceptive Slate Mailers and Voter Guides

Slate Mailer What about those mailers?

I have heard from many of you that you have received mailers that appear to be Republican, such as the one to the right, but that are taking opposite positions on the propositions and candidates than Republican party official voter guides.

This comes up every election cycle.

You should understand that these flyers, no matter what they say, are not official Republican Party literature.  If you look for the fine print, it will say that.  These are paid advertisements.  Anyone can buy space on a flyer called "Continuing the Republican Revolution" no matter what party he is in and no matter what political point of view he has.

The publishers of these flyers are simply selling advertising space, just as your local newspaper does.

Best way to deal with flyers that come in the mail?   Trash them.

If you want to know official Republican positions on the issues, go to the state party website: http://www.cagop.org, the LA county website: http://www.lagop.org, and, here in the Valley, to the SFVRC website: http://www.sfvrc.org

That is where you will get official Republican Party recommendations.

Don't assume that any flyer you get, no matter what its title is, is a Republican party recommendation.
  It will usually not be.

Club Elections

Nominations

Our By-Laws provide that we elect new officers every two years.  The process is that the Nominating Committee, which is appointed by the President, presents a recommended slate of officers to the body at the November meeting.  Elections are held at the December meeting.

At the December meeting, nominations can come from the floor, so long as the person being nominated is present or has given his consent in writing to the nomination.  Elections are then conducted.

Written secret ballots will be provided for any office where there is more than one candidate.

If you have someone you would like to nominate to an office of the SFVRC, I recommend that you send an email to Rick Schilf at rschilf@pacbell.net with your recommendation.  The nominating committee will take all of the recommendations from members and use it to present their slate to the membership.

By-Laws:

Article VII. Elections

Section A. Elections shall be held at the December general meeting of each even numbered year. Officers shall be elected by majority vote of members present. A
written ballot shall be prepared if there is more than one candidate for any office.

Section B. Additional nominations from the floor at the December general meeting of each even-numbered year are in order provided the nominees are present or have given their consent in writing.

SFVRC Business Roster
Do Business with fellow Republicans

In these tough economic times we have decided to help each other out economically.

We are preparing a business roster of Republicans for SFVRC members.  This will be merged with a county-wide business directory that is being prepared by LA County Republican Clubs.

We are encouraging all of our members to patronize the businesses of our fellow members and Republicans.  If you need goods and services, why not have them provided by your fellow Republicans?

For those of you who would like to have your business listed in our business directory, please send an email to:
BUSINESS@SFVRC.ORG .  Provide your name, the name and street address of your business, your business phone number, your business web site address, and your email address.  Also provide a description of the services you provide or the type of goods you sell.

We would like to publish this directory by May, so please send in your information.  Send an email to business@sfvrc.org with the above information.

We expect to have another great meeting of the San Fernando Valley Republican Club on Tuesday, November 9th.   In December we go back to our regular schedule of having our meetings on the FIRST Tuesday of the month.

I look forward to seeing you at our November 9th meeting.

Sincerely,

Gary Aminoff
